The socialization of homeschool group: A case study of a homeschool group in Bangkok

Abstract

The objectives of this research study are to understand the socialization of this group in terms of contents and approaches. In this study, qualitative research methodology (Case Study) was employed. There were several ways for data collection, including participative observation, non-participative observation, in-depth interview, group-interview and focus group. Key informants were mainly 7 families attending the group.

Research findings are divided into two elements with the first part about the socialization of the group’s members in terms of contents and the second part is about the socialization of the group’s members in terms of approaches. The parents focused on morality, ethics, finding self as well as life skills. In term of socialization approaches, learning by doing, through modeling and told stories, by social participation and via all kinds of media were utilized in order to encourage the children to reach their set goal. In addition, these research findings can be used to create the learning or teaching manual in the future.
