Abstract

The objective of this qualitative study was to examine the experiences of nursing students, nurse instruc-tors, and their preceptors in teaching and studying in a practicum situation. The research participants included 39
nursing students, 9 instructors, and 8 preceptors. Data was collected through a focus group and in-depth interviews
and were analyzed using the content analysis method.
The major findings are as follows. The experience of nursing students included stress in practice, instructor
driven learning, helping of senior colleague for skill practice , acquisition of skills practice through practice proce-dures, and student eager to learn. The experience of instructors included the development of better critical thinking
skills, utilization of educational resources and enhancing self-esteem. The experience of preceptors consisted of
improved communication with nursing teams, increased preparation of students, involvement of preceptors, and
active learner.
The findings could be applied to develop teaching and learning strategies in practicum. In addition, this
finding can contribute for further research.
