Keywords:
Gender, roles of Thai women and men, attitude scale.Abstract
This research aimed at developing a scaling tool to assess Thai people’s attitudes towards gender roles. Subjects included 700 people in a community. Systemic sampling was used with 52.9 % of subjects were women. Data were collected by structural interviewing based on the Attitude Towards Gender Scale, as developed from this study. The Attitude Towards Gender Scale contains 47 items and five dimensions, (norms of Thai women/men, roles of Thai women and men in the family, roles of Thai women and men in the community/workplace, power in relationships, and roles of Thai women and men in a sexual relationship). The item was a 5 - point likert-scale ranging from 1 (disagree) to 5 (completely agree). The instrument’s Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient of each dimension was between 0.66-0.81 which was at average consistency.
