Effects of empowerment practice guideline for promoting self-care and quality of life among People Living with HIV/AIDS

Abstract

          This quasi-experimental study aimed to determine the effects of empowerment practice guideline on self-care and quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA.) in Srinagarind Hospital. A sample of 40 was purposively selected, a matched-pair technique using the gender, marital status and stage of disease was used to divided the sample into the experimental and control groups with an equal size. Data were collected between October, 1 2013- August 31, 2014. The control group received regular nursing care and experimental group received regular nursing care plus empowerment practice guideline 6 sessions.  Data were analyzed using t-test. Results  revealed that at immediate post-intervention, participants who received empowerment practice guideline showed significantly higher scores in self-care behavior and quality of life than did the control group (p<0.05), and also continue significantly increased in self-care at 6-month follow-up, but did not continue significantly in quality of life scores.
