Abstract

Teachers are the key of Chinese teaching. Based on the survey data, the paper focuses on the career development of Chinese teachers in Thailand, and it also analyzes the professional identity and job burnout of these teachers with an aim to find a method of stabilizing Chinese teachers group. At the same time, the paper aims to find some specific solutions in the light of the problems, such as improving the benefit of Chinese teachers, providing specific training, and improving social status. The study employs qualitative method and collects data through questionnaires. The study reveals that overall teachers’ job satisfactions are high. They recognize Chinese teaching as a good occupation. However, they feel that their incomes are low as opposed to other occupations. Among Chinese teachers, the numbers of Thai nationality are small, while Chinese volunteer teachers’ willingness to stay in Thailand are low. This implies that the current teacher structure may not meet the national demand. Therefore, the supports from
the government and society concerning the teacher development and their remuneration are required.
