Corpus Estsblishment and Analysis of Wrongly Written Chinese Characters of Thai University Students: A Case Study in School of Sinology, Mae Fah Luang University

Abstract

This research aims to study an establishment of wrongly written Chinese characters corpus and an analysis of wrongly written Chinese characters types by Thai students. The objectives are: 1. In order to establish a wrongly written Chinese characters corpus 2. In order to analyze the types of wrongly written Chinese characters by Thai students in School of Sinology, Mae Fah Luang University. The study found that creating this corpus can be used to display the related data including the wrongly written Chinese characters made by students or the ways they made them wrong. At the same time the corpus can also be used by teachers to learn the causes made by students or even used them to prevent the cases of wrong writing in Chinese characters. Moreover, the analysis also found that there are 6 wrongly written Chinese characters types made by Thai students: they are type of missing strokes or radicals, type of over strokes or radicals, type of replacing other strokes or radicals, type of wrong writing position of strokes or radicals, type of wrong shape writing of strokes or radicals, type of wrong radicals decomposition.
