Abstract

    The purpose of this research was to study the states and problems on the measurement and evaluation of physical education at Demonstration Schools under the Office of the Higher Education Commission. The population was 186 physical education teachers who worked at demonstration schools.

     The states and problems regarding the measurement and evaluation of physical education were investigated. The approaches and tools used to assess and evaluate the learning outcomes of physical education can be divided into 5 aspects. In the cognitive domain, the majority of physical education teachers evaluated the area using an objective test. For sport skills, most of them used a sport skills test developed by themselves for quantitative, and used a scoring rubric test for qualitative. Also, the majority of physical education teachers used behavioral observation forms to evaluate the desired characteristics. For the physical fitness evaluation, most of them selected health-related physical fitness testing.

     The states and problems on the measurement and evaluation of physical education are: 1) the cognitive domain - the inability to make an objective and subjective test to measure the accuracy of purposes; 2) the sport skills domain - the skill test selection is not appropriate with the student’s performance; 3) the physical fitness domain - an insufficiency of instruments and equipment for testing; 4) the moral and ethical domain - moral and ethics measurement could not cover all aspects; 5) the desired characteristics domain - lack of standard desired behaviorial observation.
