สี่แผ่นดิน เป็นวรรณกรรมชิ้นเยี่ยมที่แสดงทักษะและฝีมือในการประพันธ์ของนักเขียนเอก ทรงคุณค่าทางวรรณศิลป์และสมบูรณ์ด้วยองค์ประกอบของวรรณกรรม คือ มีสาระสำคัญที่ถ่ายทอดด้วยเนื้อหาและแนวคิดเด่นชัด มีกลวิธีการประพันธ์ดีเด่นทั้งทางภาษาและวิธีการเขียน  กล่าวคือ เนื้อหาเป็นบันทึกการเปลี่ยนแปลงของยุคสมัยทางประวัติศาสตร์ มีแนวคิดและอุดมการณ์เชิดชูสถาบันกษัตริย์และประเพณี แนวคิดในการสะท้อนและให้ความรู้ความเข้าใจเรื่องชีวิต ส่วนกลวิธีการประพันธ์ซึ่งครอบคลุมทั้งภาษาและวิธีเขียน จัดเป็นเทคนิคเฉพาะที่แสดงฝีมือจนทำให้ได้รับยกย่องในฐานะวรรณกรรมชิ้นเอกของศิลปินแห่งชาติด้านวรรณศิลป์คนแรก

Abstract

Si Phaendin (Four Reigns) is a splendid literary work revealing excellent composing skills of an outstanding writer.  It is of great art created language and is complete with major literary elements.  It contains essences that have been translated into art works through manifestable content and concepts. The composition techniques and language are exceptional.  This novel is a record of historical changes.  The concepts and philosophy in the novel does not only show appreciation to the royal family, but also traditional Thai culture.  Moreover, it presents great philosophy in all aspects of life. The composition techniques, both of language and writing, are unique. This is the reason why this novel has been acknowledged as a masterpiece of literary work composed by the first national artist of Thailand in literature arts.
