A NEEDS ASSESSMENT FOR THE STUDENTS’ COMPETENCIES OF VOCATIONAL CERTIFICATE (MACHINE SHOP MECHANICS), DUAL SYSTEM TECHNICAL COLLEGES IN BANGKOK AND VICINITY AREA

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the competence level and assess the competence needs of the students at the vocational certificate (machine shop mechanics), dual system technical colleges located in Bangkok and vicinity area. A total of 150 participants were human resource managers, training controllers, and trainers of workplaces, who participated in managing the dual system. The instrument in this research was the questionnaire that was assessed the quality by expert consensus.  The statistics used in this research were percentage, mean, standard deviation and the Priority Needs Index. The results of this research found that the overall of the competency level was the moderate (Mean = 3.24, S = 0.28), when considering by each aspect the competency was the moderate. The overall the needs assessment of the students’ competencies was at 0.328, when considering by each aspect, all of aspects were the urgent needs of the development including the expected characteristics aspect (PNI(Modified) = 0.329), the core competency and general competency aspect (PNI(Modified) = 0.327) and the professional competency in vocational certificate (machine shop mechanics) (PNI(Modified) = 0.328).
