Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study and analyse the patterns and design of exquisite flower handicrafts, and 2) to design exquisite flower handicrafts for decoration. The results showed that exquisite flower handicraft had been considered to be a part of cultural wisdom and a form of fine art requiring craftsmanship. It needed to be modernised and adapted to preserve itself and to come into line with the government’s campaign to improve cultural products. This research involved the design of three exquisite flower handicrafts for decoration - a ceiling lamp, a candle holder and a cover sheet for a table and chair. The handicraft entitled Roi Rak was considered highly suitable and earned the highest score with a mean of 3.89 and a standard deviation of 0.57. When this handicraft was developed as a prototype it scored a mean of 3.71 and a standard deviation of 0.59 for its design, a mean of 4.27 and a standard deviation of 0.6 for its contemporary style and a mean of 3.68 and a standard deviation of 0.51 for its interior decoration.
