Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study of Mathayomsuksa I students’s analytical thinking abilities on ratio and percentages through inquiry-based learning activities and 2) to compare analytical thinking abilities on ratio and percentages of students between the pupils who learned ratio and percentages through inquiry-based learning activities and the ones who studied the topics through conventional activities. We designed 10 lesson plan with inquiry-based learning activities and a test on analytical thinking ability. The participants selected by a method of cluster random sampling were 80 Mathayomsuksa I students from Ratchaborikanukroh school in Ratchaburi, during the second semester of the 2018 academic year. They were divided into 2 groups. The first group included 40 students were taught through our created activities, and the second group included 40 students were taught through conventional activities. Percentages, mean (gif.latex?\bar{x}), standard deviation (S.D.), Z-test for Population Proportion and t-test for Independent Samples were employed in analyzing data.

The findings revealed that: (1) the number of students who scored since 60% on the analytical thinking abilities on ratio and percentages was more than 60% of the total number of students. The Z-test was analyzed at 0.05 level of significance; and (2) the t-test showed that first group gained significantly in term of analytical thinking abilities on ratio and percentages better than the second group at the 0.05 level.
