Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the basic behavior of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) usage of new graduates, 2) to study the priority need index for ICT literacy knowledge of new graduates, and 3) to compare the expected knowledge and current knowledge in ICT literacy of new graduates between the 4-year course of teacher training in electrical engineering (TE) and the 3-year transfer course of teacher training in electrical engineering in evening session (TTE). The sample group in this research consisted of 78 new graduates in the academic year 2017 who graduated in Bachelor of Science in Technical Education (Electrical Engineering), King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB). This curriculum consists of the 4-year course and 3-year transfer course. Two specialized fields in this curriculum are Electrical Power and Control System Engineering and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. The research instrument used for collecting data was a checklist and a five-point Likert scale in dual-response format questionnaire. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and the modified Priority Needs Index.

The results of the research showed that the overall current ICT knowledge of graduates was at a moderate level. However, the overall expected ICT knowledge in all aspects of graduates was at a high level. Needs for development in the first three areas were 1) ICT literacy processes, 2) ICT in education, and 3) database usage. TE and TTE had statistical differences of opinions in 5 topics for the expected knowledge and in 9 topics for the current knowledge on ICT literacy at a significance level of 0.05. The average of expected knowledge and the current knowledge of TE are higher than those of TTE on all topics that are different.
