This descriptive research aimed to study factors correlation to self-directed learning
behaviors between Big Five Personality Components and learning styles on self-directed
learning behavior of nursing students. There were 466 purposive sampling from the 1st,
2nd, 3rd and 4th year nursing students of the Faculty of Nursing St Theresa International
College, Academic year 2018. The tools used in the research were : 1) personal factors
questionnaire, 2) fve personality measures, 3) self-directed learning behavior model,
and 4) learning style measurement form. The tool number 2, 3, 4 were content validity
test by 3 experts. The reliability test by coeffcient alpha Cronbach were .85, .87 and .89
respectively. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation
and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation analysis.
The results showed that the self-directed learning behavior of nursing students with
a total average of 4.36 (S.D=0.47) was at a high level. The Big fve personality components
and learning styles had statistically signifcant at moderate positive correlation with
self-directed learning behavior of nursing students (p< .01, r = .49 and r = .53).
These fndings suggested that the self-directed learning behavior of nursing students
should be promoted by teaching and learning that corresponds to the personality
and learning styles of the students in order to enhance: 1) students’ creativity skills,
2) an openness personality to experience, and 3) being more learning independent.
