Sheehan’s Syndrome and Postpartum Hemorrhage

Unexpected massive blood loss may occur to pregnant women during intrapartum and postpartum period. Although medical team can save their lives, they may later have unwanted complications. That is Sheehan’s syndrome. The most important effects of this complication is changes in female characteristics. When Sheehan’s syndrome is diagnosed, the treatment is lifelong replacement of the hormones that are found to be deficient. Therefore preventing them from massive blood loss is the best protocol. This article presents risk assessment, medical treatment and nursing protocol to prevent pregnant women from massive blood loss in order to lower the incidence rate of Postpartum hemorrhage and Sheehan’s syndrome.
