Nurses’ Roles on Caring of Depressed Older People with Cognitive Impairment

Abstract

                Older people with cognitive impairment can lead to depression symptoms. These older people will show symptoms, such as difficulty concentration, slowly learning, difficulty language usage, and reducing environmental perception. Factors related to depression in older people with cognitive impairment included sex, age, and physical diseases, etc. Its treatments include both promoting cognitive function and reducing depression. Nursing care for these older people should use 4 phases of nursing process, including:  assessment, diagnosis, planning and implementing, and evaluation. This article aims to review the current situation of the depression in older people with cognitive impairment, assessment, and the guideline for helping the depression in older people with cognitive impairment. Nurse who is responsible for caring the depression in older people with cognitive impairment can be used this knowledge including promote, protect, care for the depression in older people with cognitive impairment, and restore them to be healthy in the late of their lives.
