CONSUMERS’ PURCHASE INTENSION FOR ORGANIC FOODS IN THAILAND

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study factors affecting consumer’s purchase intention for organic food in Thailand, 2) to analyze and categorize factors affecting consumer’s purchase intention for organic food in Thailand by demographic criteria. This research used questionnaires to collect data from 1,096 Thai consumers aged from 18 years old throughout the country. Statistical analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, T-Test analysis and One-way ANOVA. 


The results of this research were as followings;


1. On the finding of factors affecting purchase intention of consumers in Thailand, it was found that perception of organic food was at highest level of all factors affecting purchase intention for organic food (gif.latex?\bar{X}= 6.19, S.D. = 0.46), second was environmental knowledge (gif.latex?\bar{X}= 5.91, S.D. = 0.41) which was also at high level, environmental attitude (gif.latex?\bar{X}= 5.16, S.D. = 0.57) was at fairly high level, lifestyle (gif.latex?\bar{X}= 3.98, S.D. = 0.97) was at moderate level, store image (gif.latex?\bar{X}= 3.73, S.D. = 0.97) was at moderate level, social influence (gif.latex?\bar{X}= 3.54,D. = 0.91) and government support (gif.latex?\bar{X}= 3.51, S.D. = 1.01) were at lowest.


2. The result of analysis to categorize factors affecting consumer’s purchase intention for organic food in Thailand which differed by their demography has shown that different level of education did not affect different purchase intention for organic food and it was also found that consumers with different gender, age, occupation and income have different average factors of purchase intention for organic food with statistical significance level of .05.
