This one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study aimed to examine effects of the STEM project-based (SPB) learning to enhance the 21st century skills in college nursing students. A convenience sampling was used to recruit a sample of 114 students of Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Chon Buri in the 3rd year of academic year 2016. All participants enrolled in a course of Independent study. Research tools contained the instrument for implementation, including the program of SPB learning and the course syllabus, and instrument for data collection, including a questionnaire of self-evaluation about the 21st century skills. Its reliability was .95. Descriptive statistics and paired t-test were employed to analyze the data.
The results revealed that after completion of the intervention, the participants had mean scores of the 21st century skills significantly higher (p < .001) than those before the intervention both total and all 8 subscales’ scores. These findings indicate that this SPB learning is effective. Nursing instructors and academic administrators could utilize the SPB learning in nursing education to appropriately enhance the 21st century skills of the learners.
