RESEARCH AND INNOVATION DEVELOPMENT OF NATIVE CHICKENS USING THE LOCAL WISDOM IN NONGBULAMPHU PROVINCE.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are: 1) to study the current situation of raising native chickens using local wisdom in Nongbualamphu Province, 2) to develop the innovations of raising native chickens using the local wisdom in Nongbualamphu Province by participatory process of related parties, 3) to apply these innovations in practice and evaluate the results. The quantitative research methodology was used with 377 native chicken farmers. The qualitative research methods was used with a total of 60 households of the innovation stipulation group and 30 households comprising the innovation application group. The data was collected through in-depth interviews and group discussions. The research results revealed the innovations of raising native chickens in Nongbualamphu Province by the participatory processes. have five related innovations that led to the best practices. As follow 1) The selection was done by examining the appearance and strength without pinching the chicken, 2) In breeding, one cock was with five hens, 3) For native chicken houses, a simple house pattern was easily made by local materials, 4) for feeding native chickens from birth to two months of age was mix of treadted by the rice bran with finely chopped vegetables and for over two months of age was treated by mix the rice bran with finely chopped banana stalk and chopped vegetables and treat them twice a day and use the red containers for food and water, and 5) For the treatment of the health of the chickens, local herbs was used.
