BIODIVERSITY SURVEY ON HERBS IN THE AREA OF KHUNG BANGKACHAO, PHRAPRADAENG DISTRICT, SUMUT PRAKAN PROVINCE

Abstract

This study aimed to: 1) survey medicinal herbs in Khung Bangkachao area; 2) raise awareness about conservation and utilization for youth in the area; 3) collect herbs for analyzing and synthesizing the use of herbs in form of local wisdom; 4) create herbal plot specimens along with system of the sustainable management; 5) manage geographic information and present it in a map format; and 6) make documents of the lessons learned in form of medicinal herbs survey handbook. The research was considered a survey study by collection of qualitative data. The samples were local knowledge, local scholar, herbalist, including 17 herbal informants and 16 herbal plots. The study indicated that there were 305 species of herbs in the area. Awareness was created for conservation and utilization in the area, where information dissemination of herbal knowledge in form of medicinal herbs survey handbook was used to train students, community, agencies, and the interested persons. The herbal knowledge derived from the interviews was analyzed and syntheses in the form of local wisdom. Potential and viable medicinal plants of the area selected by resolution of meeting were 65 medicinal species in 16 areas of which leaves were cut for examination of the DNA. In addition, the herbal plot specimens were selected and established to ensure that the medicinal plants are permanently in the area.
