Abstract

Abstract:

This descriptive research aimed to examine the relationship among perception of nursing students in self-directed learning, readiness to a group work and learning achievement in the maternal-newborn nursing and midwifery  courses. The study sample included 218 fourth-year nursing students in Ramathibodi School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University. Data were collected using the Perception in Self-Directed Learning Questionnaire, and the Readiness to a Group Work Questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, and Spearman’s rank correlation. The results revealed that the level of perception of nursing students in self-directed learning, readiness to a group work were high. The perception of nursing students in self-directed learning, and readiness to a group work were not significantly related to learning achievement courses of the Maternal-Newborn Nursing and Midwifery 3 and Maternal-Newborn Nursing and Midwifery Practicum 2.  However, there was a positive and significant relationship between the perception of nursing students in self-directed learning and readiness to a group work. In addition, students’ scores in the Maternal-Newborn Nursing and Midwifery 3 was significant positively related to students’ scores in the Maternal-Newborn Nursing and Midwifery Practicum 2. Therefore, nursing courses should be provide encouragement to students use further self-directed learning and share learning with friend groups, to prepare for new development learning all the time.
