Guideline for Choreography of Korat Folk Dance

Abstract

ABSTRACT


This research article is a part of the research project titled “A formal analysis on performance’s choreography in ‘Thai Dance Study Project’ of Thai Dance Program, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University”. Its objectives were to analyze a guideline on how Korat Folk Dance recreated. The research is featured with the case studies of under-graduate students’ with a total amount of 14 Korat performances. Research tools included survey and literature, expert interviews, participant observation, demonstration and experimentation. The data were analyzed and concluded corresponding the research question in embodying the knowledge on how to choreograph Korat Folk Dance.


The research result showed that the forms in choreographing performances were divided into 3 categories; traditional choreography, applied choreography, and methodic choreography. One of the guidelines was the intensive study on local context and space with the local culture and tradition consideration related to the Korat uniqueness. This was not only to choreograph, but also to conserve, develop, and apply the art of Korat dancing to reflect the local identity in the innovative way. Elements in this dancing consisted of performance’s concepts, techniques, music, recreation, costume designing prop, stage blocking, and performers. It has not only provide the practical and realistic performance, but also gained the benefit of the Korat community and presented these performances to the publicity.
