Factors predicting the intention to quit smoking among military officers in Bangkok

Abstract
The objective of this descriptive research is to study the factors predicting the intention to quit smoking among military officers in Bangkok. A sample of 391 military officers was selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires. Their content validity index were 0.667, 0.867, 0.967, and 0.934 and their reliability coefficients were 0.667, 0.967, 0.867, and 0.934 respectively. Data were analyzed using stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results are as follows. Military officers have the high level of intention to quit smoking. Attitude toward smoking cessation, social support, perceived efficacy in controlling smoking cessation behavior, smoking cessation experience and the amount of cigarette used per day are able to predict 44.7 percent of the intention to quit smoking (R2 = 0.447) with statistical significance at .05 level
