Abstract

This research aims to investigate the learning of Western music history and literature through taking an online interactive quiz as an alternative to reading in narrative form outside the classroom. Respondents were asked to self-assess their learning, their satisfaction with the form of the quiz, and aspects they like about taking the quiz. Data were collected through an online survey attached to the end of the quiz. There were 33 respondents with different knowledge backgrounds. Respondents who are pre-college music students most preferred taking the quiz to reading a book in narrative form. Most graduate music students or music graduates preferred to take the quiz after having read a book or learned the material. Respondents who preferred reading a book in narrative form span all categories of respondents. Most respondents evaluated that they have learned from taking the quiz and the aspect that they like the most about taking the quiz is knowledge.
