Abstract

             “อาหารจีเอ็มโอ ในงานประติมากรรมสื่อผสม” ชุดนี้ มีที่มาจากการศึกษาเรื่องคุณภาพการบริโภคในสังคมไทย รวมทั้งการศึกษาค้นคว้าเรื่องคุณภาพของอาหารที่เกิดจากการทดลองจีเอ็มโอ หรือที่เรียกว่าการตัดแต่งพันธุกรรม Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)  ซึ่งส่งผลกระทบต่อรูปแบบการดำเนินชีวิตของผู้คนในสังคมปัจจุบันอย่างหลีกเลี่ยงมิได้ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในสังคมเมืองใหญ่ที่มีความต้องการเชิงอุปโภคและบริโภคที่สูง จึงทำให้ความต้องการเชิงปริมาณส่วนทางกันกับคุณภาพของสินค้าและอาหารที่มีอยู่อย่างจำกัด จนก่อให้เกิดปัญหาต่างๆ มากมาย นั่นก็คือ ปัญหาเรื่องของอาหารที่ไม่เพียงพอต่อความต้องการของมนุษย์ และแนวทางในการแก้ไขปัญหานั้นก็คือการเพิ่มปริมาณอาหารด้วยการนำความรู้ด้านวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีเข้ามามีบทบาทในการพัฒนาศักยภาพของอาหาร หรือการเพิ่มผลผลิตด้วยการทดลองทางพันธุกรรมที่ยังคงต้องพึ่งพาผลของการศึกษาค้นคว้าซึ่งยังไม่สามารถบ่งชี้ถึงความปลอดภัยได้แน่นอนร้อยเปอร์เซ็นต์ ดังนั้นจึงทำให้เกิดผลกระทบต่อโครงสร้างของอาหารทั้งกับพืชและสัตว์  ตลอดจนเป็นปัญหาที่เชื่อมโยงไปถึงการดำเนินชีวิตของมนุษย์ในปัจจุบันอย่างหลีกเลี่ยงมิได้

             จีเอ็มโอ หรือสิ่งมีชีวิตดัดแปลงพันธุกรรม (Genetically Modified Organisms) คืออาหารจากสิ่งมีชีวิตไม่ว่าจะเป็นพืชหรือสัตว์ที่ถูกดัดแปลงพันธุกรรมจากกระบวนการทางพันธุวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ (Genetic Engineering) โดยการตัดเอายีนของสิ่งที่มีชีวิตหนึ่งใส่เข้าไปในยีนของสิ่งมีชีวิตอีกชนิดหนึ่งที่ไม่สามารถผสมพันธุ์กันได้เองตามธรรมชาติเพื่อให้สิ่งมีชีวิตนั้นมีคุณลักษณะตามที่ต้องการ¹ ซึ่งการทดลองในลักษณะนี้ก่อให้เกิดทั้งข้อดีและข้อเสียต่อการบริโภคของผู้คนในปัจจุบัน และยังคงเป็นประเด็นที่ถกเถียงกันอีกนานสำหรับผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องจนยากที่จะคาดเดาได้ว่าจะมีข้อยุติที่เป็นยอมรับกันได้ทุกฝ่ายในลักษณะใด อย่างไรก็ตามเทคโนโลยีพันธุวิศวกรรมยังคงทวีความสำคัญตลอดศตวรรษนี้  และการพัฒนาจีเอ็มโอชนิดใหม่ยังคงก้าวต่อไปอย่างไม่หยุดยั้ง เพื่อแสวงหาความเหมาะสมสำหรับการรองรับสถานการณ์โลกที่กำลังเปลี่ยนแปลงในอนาคต

Therefore, it affects the structure of food both with plants and animals. It is also a problem that is inevitably linked to today's human life.

              GMOs or Genetically Modified Organisms are food from genetically engineered plants or animals by cutting off the genes of the living organisms. Enter into the genes of another organism that can not be spontaneous in nature so that the organism has the desired characteristics. The experiments in this way give rise to both the pros and cons of the consumption of the present. It is still a long controversial issue for those involved so it's hard to predict which way all the parties will agree.
