Developing and Examining Quality of Key Indicators on Student-Centered Learning in Technical Vocational Education and Training Institutions, Vientiane, Lao PDR

Abstract

               The purposes of this study were to 1) develop the key indicator of student-centered learning (SCL), and 2) examine the quality of key indicators of SCL in TVET Laos context. The research participants were divided into three groups; group one derived by purposive sampling consisting of 33 and 26 experts panel who had responded in two rounds, group two consisted of 5 experts from internal and external field area, and group three was derived by stratified random sampling of 106 teachers from four TVET institutions. The research instruments included questionnaire, evaluation forms and the feasibility and appropriateness form were used to collect data. Accordingly, the data were analyzed by using statistics for measurement median, interquartile range, percentage, IOC, item-total correlation, correlation analysis, content analysis, mean (M), standard deviation (SD). The result show five effective key indicators of SCL found from fifty-two indicators. The result of the examining quality of five key indicators with each item have had effectiveness and suitability at good level, the score were at between = 4.40 to 5.00. The quality of 20 item of five key indicators were indicated by the scores of content validity between 0.4 to 1, the discrimination index between .433 to .666, the reliability of Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient  = .908, and the construct validity showed correlation between each key score and the total scores of key F to key R = .791, .880, .832, .826, and .842 respectively.
