Creative Pottery: Case Study of Pottery with Havena Wood and Liana Plant in Songkhla Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research 1) study the form of pottery both in the past and present including
the production process of Sathing Mor people 2) study creative idea to create sculpture work 3) develop
clay and study the model, idea, technique and method of producing pottery with Havena wood and Liana
plant by extending the local wisdom and 4) create a unique pottery product. Choosing a sample group
with purposive sampling from a pottery producer of Ban Sathing Mor, 5 pottery shops in Muang Songkhla
District, Songkhla Province and 24 third year students who are majoring in design and have registered in the
classes of pottery design, material and method and souvenir design. The study found producer of Ban Sathing Mor, traditional manufacturing processes,Modified slightly.The researchers further development of
the manufacturing process of the local, And study creative sculptures, The development of materials and
methods of manufacture. Able to continue to produce and sell. The basis for the development, The
material is durable, for benefits. New products reflecting the local nature and the types of products
designed in line with the needs of market. The researcher used Havena wood such as wood from the
pallet due to its cheap price . The researcher utilized two sources of design inspiration and the original form
of product from Sathing Mor people to create the design of pottery with Havena wood and Liana plant. The
result of the development of clay to conform to the burning technique, the researcher has concluded that
the clay mixture in the ratio of 70:30 for local clay and fermented clay can withstand heat when burning
and retaining its form without breaking. It can be used to create complex form and can be practically used
by the local potters in their manufacturing and sold to the market.
