Abstract

The objectives of this study were to investigate the opinion and behavior of students in King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), in participating in solid waste management. Questionnaires, which has reliability value equal to 0.769, were employed to collect data. Stratified random sampling method was used and the number of each faculty in each stratum was allocated by proportion. Out of the total number of questionnaires administered, 465 were returned and used in the analysis. The results revealed that 63.9 percent of the respondents were female and only 32.5 percent have been educated in separating solid waste properly from KMITL. 13.1 percent of respondents had always
separated their garbage before disposal. The rest had sometimes or never separated it. The main reason given was that they had not been provided with separate dustbins for waste disposal. Overall, the respondents had high-level opinions on solid waste management but
their level of participation was intermediate. However, the results of hypotheses testing showed that there were no statistical difference at the 0.05 level between sex and faculty with their behaviors.
