Currently, teaching and learning in nursing focuses on developing learners' skills for the 21st century. There are a variety of methods to promote skills, and e-Learning is one of them which learners can learn by themselves, depending on their own needs. This is consistent with the present technology in which knowledge can be searched and learned on the Internet. This learning method enhances active learning. It also facilitates thinking skills and application of knowledge. It is better than passive learning.
Teaching and learning through e-learning will be successful, if an instructor designs appropriate instructional lessons for the learners and may also achieve cost-effectiveness. This article describes e-learning as a method of instructional management. It covers the following content: characteristics, elements, application approaches in teaching and learning, advantages and limitations, principles of instructional design. Moreover, an example of applying e-learning in a course entitled “Maternal and Newborn Nursing and Midwifery 1 of Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Bangkok” is illustrated.
