Repeated measure One-way ANOVA

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study aimed to study the effects of the Somporn Kantaradusdi-Triamchaisri Technique 2 (SKT2), a standing deep breathing meditation exercise, on blood pressure levels and chemical indicators including FBS, HbA1c, BUN, Creatinine and lipid profile in 43 patients with uncontrollable hypertension. The participants were divided into two groups. Twenty-one patients in group 1 received hypertensive medication and practiced the SKT2 20 minutes twice daily at home  for eight weeks. Twenty-two patients in group 2 were treated with hypertensive medication only. Blood pressure levels and chemical indicators were re-evaluated in week 4 and 8 for comparison with the pre-test. The data were analyzed using an independent t-test and repeated measure One-way ANOVA. The results showed that:

  1. The average systolic pressure and diastolic pressure of patients in group 1 and group 2 after implementation for 8 weeks were significant difference at 0.01 level. The average systolic pressure and diastolic pressure of the patients in group 1 after implementation for 4 and 8 weeks were lower than before implementation with significance at 0.001 level.
  2. There was no difference between all biomarkers in both groups during the study.

In conclusion, the SKT2 decreased both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. This technique can be applied to patients with hypertension who have difficulty with controlling their blood pressure.
