A Model of Banking Technology Management for Promoting Saving of Secondary School Students Complying with the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy

The purposes of this dissertation were to: 1) identify information associated with saving of secondary school students; 2) develop a model of banking technology management for promoting saving of the secondary school students complying with the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy; and 3) assess efficiency of the experiment of implementing the banking technology management model developed for promoting money saving of the secondary school students complying with the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy. The participants of this study were 120 secondary school students in Muang District of Phetchaburi Province in year 2009 selected with a purposive random sampling method from both public and private schools, which were assigned into two experimental groups and two controlled groups, each group included 30 students. A group of 18 bank management experts were also selected with a Delphi technique to evaluate the model. The instruments used for this study were a questionnaire, the model of banking technology management for promoting saving of the secondary school students, a manual of using ATM banking machine, and a satisfaction evaluation. The data were analyzed with statistical methods for percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The hypotheses were tested with t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Scheffé’s test.

The results were as follows: Most of the secondary school students who loved to save money were females, 14-15 years of age and received money to spend at school between 1,001–5,000 Baht a month. Their parents earned about 10,000–15,000 Baht monthly income. The majority of the parents were daily-hired workers, farmers, civil servants. Most of the parents graduated from primary to secondary educational levels. The model of banking technology management for promoting saving of the secondary school students complying with the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy that was appropriate with the school students was the School-based Stand-alone ATM Banking (SS-ATM-B) similar to business banking in common, but the manager was the teacher who had knowledge of accounting and computer and also taught the students, the bank customers, to save their daily school expense money based on the principles of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy. When evaluating the efficiency after the experiment of using the banking technology management model for promoting saving of the secondary school students, it was found that the students in the experimental groups and those in the controlled groups had number of deposits and total amount of money in their saving accounts were significantly different at .01 level indicating that the students in the experimental groups had more frequent times of deposit and the total money in their bank accounts than those in the controlled groups in both types of schools, private and public.
