Abstract

Background: Recovery is the goal of health-care services that emphasizes on patient’s point of recovery in those who receive total laparoscopic hysterectomy to return to normal and active daily living and well-being. There are a number of factors involving the recovery which includes duration of pelvic pain of pre-operation, body mass index of pre-operation, patient’s ability post-operation, anxiety of the patient pre-operation, and knowledge of the patient about pre-operation.

Objective: To identify predictive factors for recovery among patients with post total laparoscopic hysterectomy.

Methods: A multi-stage sampling from 2 sectiondary hospitals, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and Rajavithi Hospital, recruited 109 subjects. Their data were collected using 7 questionnaires:
1) demographic data form;

2) duration pelvic pain before operation;

3) body mass index record;

4) post-operation ability of the patient;

5) hospital anxiety scale;

6) knowledge about pre-operation; and

7) quality of recovery. The data were analyzed using stepwise multiple-regression.

Results: Recovery of patients with post total laparoscopic hysterectomy was of moderate level (17.36 gif.latex?\pm 3.09). Significant factors to recoveryamong patients with total laparoscopic hysterectomy were anxiety of pre-operation (beta = - 0.35), knowledge about pre-operation (beta = 0.41), ability of the patient post-operation (beta = 0.26) and body mass index of pre-operation (beta = - 0.25). However, duration pelvic pain of pre-operation was not significant factor. They could explan the 63.2% of recovery in patients with post total laparoscopic hysterectomy (P < 0.05).

Conclusion: This study promotes postoperative recovery in patients with post total laparoscopic hysterectomy.
