The Development of Writing Skills on Words with Odd Spelling Rules Using Practice Package and CIPPA Approach for Prathomsuksa 2 Students

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to develop and to investigate the effciency of the practice package on writing words with odd spelling rules, to compare learning achievement on writing words with odd spelling rules before and after using the practice package in combination with CIPPA teaching approach of prathomsuksa 2 students, and to examine the students’ attitude towards Thai language course.


Recruited by cluster sampling, the samples were 18 prathomsuksa 2/1 students from Anuban Muang Chiang Rai School under Chiang Rai Primary Education Service Area Offce 1 in their 2nd semester of academic year 2016. The research instruments were practice package on writing words with odd spelling rules in Thai learning area for prathomsuksa 2 students. The practice package comprised 5 sets. There were 5 learning plans covering 17 hours using CIPPA Approach the practice package on writing words with odd spelling rules for prathomsuksa 2 students. The other two instruments were achievement test on writing words with odd spelling rules and the students’ attitude questionnaire towards Thai language course. The data analysis employed effciency calculation on the developed practice package by using E1/E2 formula. T-test was used to examine the comparison of pre- and posttest scores on before and after using the practicepackageandCIPPAteachingapproach.Thestudents’attitudetowardsThailanguage course was analyzed by mean (gif.latex?\bar{X}) and standard deviation (S.D.). The results revealed that:


1. The practice package on writing words with odd spelling rules for prathomsuksa 2 students indicated the holistic effciency scores at 85.30/84.44 which were higher than the 80/80 standard criterion.


2. Thelearningachievementonwritingwordswithoddspellingrulesastheresult of using the practice package and CIPPA teaching approach for prathomsuksa 2 students indicated that the pre-test mean score was higher than the post-test mean score at the signifcance level of .01.


3. The attitude towards Thai language course of prathomsuksa 2 students, in overall, was found at the strongly agree level (gif.latex?\bar{X} = 4.81, S.D. = 0.40).
