CHARACTERS OF COLOR TERMS IN THE KHMER LANGUAGE

There are four grammatical units of color terms in the Khmer Language : noun modifiers, Intransitive or descriptive verbs , noun and verbal complements. Functioning as nouns color terms cannot appear in initiating sentences. There are distinctive features between color terms and adjectives. Color terms cannot be negated by a negator ( /qat/ or /mɨn/ “not” ) but adjectives can. Moreover, color terms can function as verbal complements while adjective cannot
