Abstract

This article is translatedfrom Judy Ledgerwood’s article “Gender Symbolism and Culture Change :Viewing the Virtuos Woman in the Khmer story ‘Mea Yoeng’ ” found in the book Cambodia Culture since 1975 : homeland and exile.1994 (Ledgerwood : Cornell University ,1994. ) Judy Ledgerwood uses various version of Khmer story “Mea Yoeng” to illuminate changing Khmer concepts of gender roles as a system of symbols, social order and the process of culture change.
