Vision of Local Administration Leaders on Local Community Development in Chiang Mai Responding to ASEAN Economic Community Establishment

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study the vision of local administration leaders and factors influencing their visions. The research found that their vision consists of
1) their knowledge and understanding of ASEAN community agreement 2) their ability on preserving local identity especially local knowledge and local root 3) human resources preparation and performance enhancement 4) plan and strategy preparation responding to ASEAN Community establishment. It is found that several factors including leaders’ experience, openness to information and social networking had high impact on their
vision. Meanwhile, leaders’ characteristics and local private sector had moderate impact on their vision. The hypothesis test showed the relationship between the vision of local administration leaders and several factors including leaders’ experience, openness to information, social networking and local private sector with the statistical significance level of 0.01. However, there was no relationship between the leaders’ characteristics and their visions.
