Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to compare self-understanding scores of the experimental group students before and after receiving an online individual counseling program to develop self-understanding; and 2) to compare post-experiment self-understanding scores of the experimental group students who received the online individual counseling program with the post-experiment counterpart scores of the control group students who received an information program on self-understanding. The research sample consisted of 30 undergraduate students or their equivalents in the Faculty of Engineering, Prince of Songkla University, during the second semester of the 2017 academic year, who voluntarily participated in the experiment.  They were then randomly assigned into the experimental group and the control group, each of which containing 15 students. The employed research instruments were (1) an online individual counseling program to develop self-understanding; (2) an information program on self-understanding; and (3) a scale to assess self-understanding, with reliability coefficient of .88. Statistics employed for data analysis were the percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The research results revealed that 1) the post-experiment self-understanding mean score of the experimental group students was significantly higher than their pre-experiment counterpart mean score at the .01 level of statistical significance; and 2) the post-experiment self-understanding mean score of the experimental group students was significantly higher than the post-experiment counterpart mean score of the control group students at the .01 level of statistical significance.
