Development of Teacher Professional Characteristics of Student Teachers in the Faculty of Education Bansomdejchopraya Rajabhat University

Abstract

This study aimed to develop teacher professional characteristics of student teachers in the Faculty of education, Bansomdejchopraya Rajabhat University. There were four stages in this quasi – experimental research; 1) investigating related research to define the terms, characteristics, and learning activities; 2) creating learning activities for developing teacher professional characteristics of student teachers in the Faculty of education, Bansomdejchopraya Rajabhat University, and creating a teacher professional assessment tool;  3) verifying the learning activities, and a teacher professional assessment tool; and 4) evaluating the learning activities. The research sample comprised 76 second-year student teachers in the Faculty of education, enrolled in the  curriculum development  course (1001204) in the 1st semester, 2017, obtained by multistage random sampling. The instruments used in this study included learning activities, curriculum development tests, the teacher professional assessment tool, and learning satisfaction evaluation form. The data were analyzed by using the mean, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA, and content analysis. The results of the study revealed that: 1) There are four stages in learning activities; (1) raising attention to learn; (2) encouraging learning by using the research methods; (3) studying and searching for information from different learning sources; and (4) exchanging the information, and ideas. 2) The students’ knowledge about curriculum development was at the moderate level. 3) The mean score of teacher professional characteristics of the students was at the high level, and there was no difference among the study groups at the .05 level of statistical significance. 4) The satisfaction in the learning activities was at the high level.
