Abstract

Scheduling of truck dispatching plays an important role in logistics and transportation system in the Ready-Mixed Concrete industry. Because of manually scheduling by using personal experiences, errors or mistakes possibly may occur causing to reduce profits of the firm. In order to improve efficiency in transportation, computer programming using logistics modeling is therefore developed. This can be used as a support tool for a planner in making decisions for all RMC trucks in a company.   Genetic algorithm and simulation techniques have been used to develop a model so called ‘Scheduling and Dispatching for Ready-Mixed Concrete trucks (SDRMC)’. From using real data from RMC operator located in Khon Kaen, Thailand, it was found that scheduling results from SDRMC outperforms ones manually scheduled by staff. Total waiting time and number of trucks represented in SDRMC schedules are less than ones in manual schedules. Therefore SDRMC has potential in the improvement efficiency and effectiveness for logistics systems in RMC industries.
