Motivational Strategies: Enhancing English Language Skills

Abstract

The English language has presently become a very important global language because it is widely used as a means of international communication for all kinds of activities. Additionally, Thailand will become a member of the ASEAN Community and this will cause the English language to play a more vital role. Surveys have showed that Thai students’ English language skills still remain at a low level and thus the skills should be improved and developed urgently in order to compete with other countries. This article aims at presenting language learning and teaching strategies that motivate students effectively for English instructors to integrate them with their teaching so as to instill motivation, positive attitudes and perseverance in their learners to enhance their English skills.

กลยุทธ์สร้างแรงจูงใจ: การพัฒนาทักษะภาษาอังกฤษ

ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาสากลที่มีความสำคัญเป็นอย่างยิ่งในปัจจุบัน เพราะใช้เป็นสื่อกลางในการติดต่อสื่อสารระหว่างประเทศอย่างกว้างขวาง และในอนาคตอันใกล้นี้ การเข้าร่วมเป็นสมาชิกประชาคมอาเซียนของประเทศไทยจะทำให้ภาษาอังกฤษมีบทบาทสำคัญมากยิ่งขึ้น แต่จากการสำรวจพบว่า ทักษะการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียนและนักศึกษาไทยส่วนใหญ่ในปัจจุบันยังมีคุณภาพอยู่ในเกณฑ์ต่ำ จึงจำเป็นต้องปรับปรุงและพัฒนาอย่างเร่งด่วนเพื่อให้สามารถแข่งขันกับนานาประเทศ บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ที่จะนำเสนอกลยุทธ์ในการเรียนการสอนภาษาต่างประเทศที่สร้างแรงจูงใจได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ คณาจารย์ผู้สอนภาษาอังกฤษจะสามารถนำแนวคิดดังกล่าวไปบูรณาการการสอนของตนเพื่อสร้างแรงจูงใจให้ผู้เรียนมีความสนใจ มีทัศนคติที่ดี และตั้งใจฝึกฝน เพื่อพัฒนาทักษะการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษให้มีประสิทธิภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น
