Graphic design from Esan Sim Mural Identity for cultural products and digital media

Abstract

          This research is study on graphic design from The characters and The scenes of Esan Sim Mural Identity (huup taem) with 3 objectives as follows: 1) study and analyse the characters and scenes of Esan Sim Mural identity (huup taem) 2) create a graphic design from the characters and scenes of Esan Sim Mural identity (huup taem) for product and packaging.The design conceptual framework is based on the basic arts principles consisting of 1. Form and size 2. Distance and empty space 3. Color-coding 4. Placement. On the study scopes, 8 locations of Esan sim mural identity (huup taem) built by folk craftsmen in Khon Kaen, Mahasarakam and Roi ed Provinces were assessed and the purposive sampling method in selecting Esan Original sim mural was used, then survey and data collection on story, character and scene of Huup taem in Esan Sim, were performed. The results showed that only 7 locations of Esan sim mural identity (huup taem) except Esan Sim mural in Wat Sra Thong are exhibited the complete art principles. The story presented in the Esan Sim mural comprised of literature about buddistism, folk ,culture and life style. Most of them is Buddhist literature especially Pra-wes-sun-dol, Each huup taem are outstanding Esan sim mural identities with different lined pattern, form pattern and size of characters including the colors. Finally some distinguish characters and scene were exemplified to develop the creative products and packaging e.g. creating the character and scene from the giant huup taem from Wat-Pho-Tha-Ram, Sigha huup taem from Wat-Pha-Le-Lai , developing the graphic design into a t-shirt and fabric bag from the battle of giant and Sin-sai, Brahmin huup taem from Wat-Sa-nuan-Wa-ree Pat-ta-na respectively and the graphic design on packaging of Kao-Hang(Rice) from the rice cultivation in the past(life style) of huup taem in Wat Pho-Tha-Ram,Those are the examples of creation of the cultural products and digital media.
