ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อความหลากหลายศิลปกรรมของวัดไทย ในประเทศสิงคโปร์ Factors Causing Diversities in the Arts of Thai Buddhist Temples in Singapore

Abstract

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัย ซึ่งส่งผลต่อความหลากหลายทางศิลปกรรมของวัดไทยในสิงคโปร์ เพื่อเพิ่มองค์ความรู้ของวัดไทยในต่างแดน  โดยใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ   เลือกศึกษาวัดที่เป็นวัดไทยโดยสมบูรณ์สามวัด  คือวัดอานันทเมตยาราม  วัดป่าเลไลยก์   วัดกาญจนาราม  โดยพิจาณาจากวัดไทยซึ่งมีศิลปกรรมหลายๆ รูปแบบ   เลือกผู้ให้สัมภาษณ์เป็นพระสงฆ์และฆราวาส ใช้วิธีการเลือกแบบเจาะจงกับพระสงฆ์ไทยและฆราวาสที่เป็นช่าง เลือกแบบบังเอิญกับฆราวาสที่มาทำบุญในวัดและเป็นผู้ให้ข้อมูลได้มาก  เก็บข้อมูลทั้งเอกสารและภาคสนาม โดยการสัมภาษณ์เจาะลึกและสังเกตแบบไม่มีส่วนร่วม   นำข้อมูลมาตีความและวิเคราะห์เชิงพรรณนา  ผลจากการศึกษาพบว่า  ความหลากหลายศิลปกรรมของวัดไทยมีหลายปัจจัย  ได้แก่  การที่วัดไทยอยู่ในทำเลซึ่งเป็นศาสนสถานอื่นๆ มาก่อน    การทำให้วัดเป็นพื้นที่ศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของทุกกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์    การสนองความต้องการด้านโชคลาภ  การเป็นที่รับฝากศิลปวัตถุ การให้วัดไทยเป็นแหล่งอนุรักษ์ศิลปวัตถุ การรวมความแตกต่างทางความเชื่อมาไว้ที่เดียวกัน การมีคณะกรรมการวัดและทรัสตี้เป็นเชื้อสายจีน  และความปรารถนาสิ่งใหม่ๆ ให้กับวัด  ปัจจัยเหล่านี้มีทั้งกลไกอันเกิดจากสภาพพื้นที่ การให้บริการ และการบริหารจัดการเพื่อให้วัดไทยดำรงอยู่ได้ มีปัจจัยที่ควบคุมได้และควบคุมไม่ได้  ท่ามกลางคนส่วนใหญ่ซึ่งมีวัฒนธรรมที่แตกต่าง และอยู่ในอำนาจของคนต่างชาติ

The objective of this qualitative study was to investigate factors causing diversities in the arts of Thai Buddhist temples in Singapore so as to enhance knowledge of Thai temple in foreign country.  Three complete composition of Thai Buddhist temples were selected according to their various forms of art: Wat Ananda Metyarama, Wat Palelai, and Wat Kancanaram.  Informants consisting of Buddhist monks and craftsmen selected using purposive sampling and ordinary people selected using accidental sampling, who came to make merit in the temples and who could give information.  Data were collected from related documents and field data collected through in-depth interviews and non-participant observations.  The data were interpreted and analyzed using descriptive analysis.  The Thai Buddhist temples have mixed features and diversified characteristics of art and culture of Chinese, Burmese, and Hindu.  The study found that many factors that have caused the diversities in the arts of Thai Buddhist temples are as follows.  The locations of the Thai Buddhist temples used to be religious sites of other religions; the temples are made sacred places for all ethnic groups; to meet the needs in terms of luck, places for art objects to be deposited, places for preservation of art objects, places for collection of different beliefs, the fact that the temples have Chinese descendants as committee members and trustees, and wishes for the temples to have new items.  These factors are mechanisms due to the condition of the area, services, and management.  They include controllable and uncontrollable factors amidst people of different cultures and under the power of foreigners.
