AbstractThe objectives of this research were aimed to study the participation and need of communities in school- based curriculum development of the Basic Educational Institution Under Office of Basic Education in Nongbualamphu Area 1.
It was the qualitative study which had studied in the school contexts by means of in-depth interview in form of informal interview with stakeholders who concerned with the school-based curriculum development.
The target groups were selected by purposive sampling from three schools that were considered as information-rich case : high evaluation school, moderate evaluation school and low evaluation school that was needed to
rapid improvement its quality. Collecting information from the target groups (33 Person) were employed by interviewing with administrators, teachers, community leaders, folk scholars, committees from the Office of Basic Education and parents. Researcher asked them for recording and taking note before starting informal in-depth interview.
The results of this research were 1) revealed that the state of community participation in the school-based curriculum development found communities were less knowledge in curriculum or unclear. In the community role related to the curriculum, they did not understand the frame of their responsibilities. By introducing of schools, they were aware of their duties and tasks or their roles for participation. 2) need of communities concerning the participation of school-based curriculum development was found out that communities wanted to participate in it and needed a prerequisite for participating in curriculum development: providing knowledge, awareness of their role, and more opening opportunity for the communities to participate.
