Abstract

This study was set up to determine the effect of individual counseling on anxiety of heart surgery patients.
To study, 12 subjects who were receiving coronary artery disease from queen Sirikit heart center of the
northeastern between April to July 2010 were requested to participate. Subjects were tested anxiety using anxiety
questionnaire applied from Cardiac Anxiety Questionnaire (CAQ) and divided into 3 groups including group 1:
subjects were determined anxiety before and after counseling, group 2: subjects were determined anxiety before
counseling and after heart surgery for 3 days and group 3: subject were determined anxiety before counseling,
after counseling and 3 day after heart surgery. Moreover counseling patients were also compared to control group
after counseling and after 3 days of heart surgery. It was found that subject in group 3 showed significantly
decrease anxiety (p-value<0.5). However, there was no significant different in other group mentioned.
