Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) To study elements of quality of work life as perceived by Laos migrant labors in workplaces 2) To study factors that affects the quality of work life of Laos migrant labors. Methodology used for data collection was qualitative and quantitative study. Target group for this study was 117 Laos migrant labors working in workplaces in the area of Baan Thoom Sub-district Municipality, Muang Khon Kaen District, Khon Kaen Province. Collection of quantitative data was performed by structured questionnaires created by the researcher. Also, qualitative data was collected by semi-structured interviews of 30 Laos migrant labors. The results of the study were:
1. Elements of quality of work life for Laos migrant labors were: sufficient and fair wages that would allow them to send some money back home, safe working environment and conditions that would help on health promotion, confidence on the workplaces that would allow the security and progress of life, opportunities for progress and security of work for them by being promoted to develop themselves through training regularly, working collaboration and relationship with others, opportunities to give opinions about work in their workplace, their privacy was respected and not intruded in their workplace if not related to work, sufficient time for resting, their families and themselves, and opportunities to participate in activities for public benefits of their workplaces.
2. Factors that affected the quality of their life were: Personal factor: Laos migrant labors found new love and new family, Social factor: their ability to adjust themselves to work, culture and new friends, Economics factor: more income, expenses and debts, Environmental factor: their adjustment to new places and environment in order to support their families and relatives in Lao PDR to have a better life.
