Abstract

This study focuses on the dilemma zone of intersections controlled by traffic signal from various factors. The study area is three intersections in the suburbs. This study investigated the speed of the vehicle approaching the intersection during the yellow light and all red, width of intersection, and the number of cars passing through the red- light. For analysis and consideration from the comparison of minimum stopping distance, maximum yellow-light-running distance, and the minimum duration of the yellow light. The results presented that if the speed at the intersection is about 53-63 km/hr. and the distance from the stop line is about 51-68 meters, it does not correlate with the duration of the yellow light signal for 3 seconds, so it is resulting in dilemma zone and risk of passing through the red-light. The results of the study have led to the understanding of the dilemma zone, and it has proposed ways to fix and prevent problems for developing of safety measures.
