Abstract

This research aimed to study and apply Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the construction quantity takeoff and cost estimate in the MasterFormat. The process started with creating and combining the BIM-based into the MasterFormat in order to apply in the construction quantity takeoff and cost estimation. After the model accuracy was validated, the BIM-based estimation method was compared with the conventional estimation method by separated the construction quantity into the MasterFormat category. The results showed that there was less than 3.00 percent of the accuracy difference between two approaches. However there was some mistake from this developed method such as the overlapping of the nearby area of the difference construction type. After that, the results from this model were reviewed by the construction experts. The experts suggested that it was possible to apply the BIM-based model in quantity takeoff following the MasterFormat category in the construction process in Thailand. The model can increase the precision and reliability of the quantity takeoff and cost estimation in construction process.
