Perception on Community Identities of Ethnic Students in Chiang Rai Rajabhat University

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the perception on
community identities of ethnic students in Chiang Rai Rajabhat
University. The samples were Akha, Hmong, and Lahu ethnic
students in Chiang Rai Rajabhat University. 132 ethnic students
were purposively selected. The instrument was the questionnaire
on 14 topics about the perception on ethnic students’ community
identities. The research methodologies were mixed designed
using questionnaire, and studied from research journals. The
findings were analyzed by percentage, mean ( ), S.D. and Typological
Analysis, Analytical Induction and Descriptive presentation. The
findings of the study indicated that the highest level mean scores
of perception on the community identities were language (100.00 %)
religion (99.20 %), and the lowest level was the local wisdom
(19.70 %). Moreover, the survey also was revealed the perception
on community identity development including five community
identities. The results presentedfive highest levels from questionnaire
were souvenir (76.50 %, x = 1.23, S.D. = 0.42), festivals and fairs
(73.50 %, x = 1.26, S.D. 0.44), rituals, beliefs and values (70.50 %,
x = 1.29, S.D. = 0.45), local wisdom and Custom Dressing (62.10 %,
x = 1.37, S.D. = 0.48) and local food (56.8 %, x = 1.43, S.D. = 0.49).
