Extension Model on supply chain management of organic rice of farmers in Lower-Northeastern part of Thailand

Abstract

The objectives were to study 1) socio-economic, information and knowledge perception 2) production management, opinions, and problems 3) rice supply chain management 4) factors that influenced the production and opinions on supply chain management 5) the extension of supply chain management 6) models and guidelines in the extension of rice supply chain management in the lower northeastern region by conducting interviews. Analyzed statistics values such as T-test and multiple regression analysis. The results showed that 1) most of the farmers were female with the average age of 51.50 years old and completed primary school education. Their household members were 4.22 people with the household labor of 2.64 people and no labor hiring. They owned 10.34 rai of organic rice field. The farmers were part of organic production group with the average income from organic rice production of 57,943.10 Baht and expenses of 26,905.55 Baht per year. The information reception was from the news distribution tower by local leaders. Farmers had correct perception towards the organic rice production at a medium level. 2) The average productivity was 563.49 kilogram per rai. The opinions towards supply chain of farmers were at the highest level. Problems were at the medium level. 3) The supply chain management of every groups was strong and were not different from each other. 4) Factors that influenced the practicality of supply chain management included opinions and education levels. Factors that affected the opinions were the membership in agricultural institutions, household members, and knowledge reception. 5) Current extension officials were not at the level of expectation that farmers want yet. They would like for support in production management. 6) At the upstream level, the model system was the training and visitation. Midstream, group meeting and training model. Downstream, focused on supporting the distributions in various channels as well as information technology adoption to help with the promotion so that the consumers would be able to receive the various types of products according to standard. The extension guidelines should emphasize on the development of production, quality and product, agricultural extension officials, agricultural, and traits in supply chain management extension.
