DEVELOPMENT OF SUPPLEMENTARY BOOKS USING SONGS AND TALES INTEGRATING WITH MUSIC CORE CURRICULUM STANDARDS TO ENHANCE EARLY ELEMENTARY STUDENTS’ MORALITY

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to: 1) develop supplementary book using songs and tales integrating with music core curriculum standards to enhance early elementary students’ morality 2) study young students’ learning behavior and morality perception. Research and development were the methodology used in this study. Research tools included 1) Supplementary book evaluation form 2) students’ learning behavior observation form 3) students’ morality perception observation form. After a selective sampling, there were 18 students of second grade from Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School participated in this study. The researcher analyzed learning objectives, synthesized how to create a supplementary book, developed research tools, experimented, and concluded the results. The findings were as follows: 1) The supplementary book used Aesop’s fable: The shepherd boy and the wolf as a story conveyed morality as well as musical content of a steady beat. The book was designed based upon the appropriate content, language, visual representation, and related details. 2) The students’ learning behaviors were highly acceptable after using the supplementary book session (higher than 90% class’ correct responses and correct steady beat tapping).     The objectives of the research were to: 1) develop supplementary book using songs and tales integrating with music core curriculum standards to enhance early elementary students’ morality 2) study young students’ learning behavior and morality perception.
