Abstract

The instructional management is the process of thought, combined with the experience in accordance with the aims of curriculum. Content is the aspect to develop learners’ knowledge and ability. Besides, supportive factors, consisting of learner, teaching technique, instructional media, and teaching and learning environment are the aspects to help and promote educational achievement.
This research aims to examine the instructional management of a group of music theory subjects in the Department of Western Music, Faculty of Fine Arts, Srinakharinwirot University by investigating the opinions of the Bachelor’s degree students in the Department of Western Music and the Department of Music Education. The sample of this research was 80 students in the Department of Western Music and the Department of Music Education (Western music) who enrolled in a group of music theory subjects in the academic year 2014. The research instrument used for data-collecting was the Questionnaire for instructional management of a group of music theory subjects. This test was examined for validity with experts consisting of three experts in music and three experts in educational measurement and evaluation; and was checked for reliability using Cronbach α-coefficient. It had the reliability coefficient of 0.87.
The research result is founded that the students rated instructional management of a group of music theory subjects in the Department of Western Music, Faculty of Fine Arts, Srinakharinwirot University at a high level. When each aspect was considered, it was found that the aspects of content, teaching and learning context, measurement and evaluation, and lecturer were rated at a high level, while the aspect of teaching and learning environment was rated at a moderate level. This result will be used as a guideline to improve and develop the quality and potential of instructional management of a group of music theory subject in order to benefit the social context.
